Abstract

TheTIMSS 2007 Encyclopedia: A Guide to Mathematics and Science Education Around the World describes the intended curriculum; the mathematics and science curriculum asit is intended to be taught in each of the countries participating in TIMSS 2007. It alsodescribes countries' education systems and policies, so that the encyclopedia providesa detailed insight into the educational practices that guide mathematics and scienceinstruction. The qualitative information used in the TIMSS 2007 Encyclopedia is intendedto complement the quantitative data that are contained in the TIMSS 2007 InternationalMathematics Report and the TIMSS 2007 International Science Report. Together with theTIMSS 2007 international reports, the information in the TIMSS 2007 Encyclopedia can beused to examine the relationships among policy and curricular expectations, instructionalpractices, and achievement outcomes within and among participating countries.
