Nonlinear nanooptics with spin waves

Basic data for this project

Type of project: Individual project
Duration: 01/10/2008 - 30/09/2011 | 1st Funding period

Description

The main goal of this project is to study nonlinear spin-wave propagation in laterally patterned magnetic nanostructures. Nonlinear spin-wave optical effects in micro-waveguides of dif-ferent dimensionalities and properties of persistent nonlinear wave objects in parametrically pumped closed-loop nano-waveguides will be investigated. These studies will open a new research field, which we call “nonlinear spin-wave nanooptics”. The proposed investigations will contribute to the basic physics of universal nonlinear phenomena, such as solitons, modula-tional instabilities, pattern formation, and dynamic chaos. Be-sides, they are expected to open new possibilities for manipula-tion, amplification, and transmission of spin waves to be used in applications of magnetic nanostructures in microelectronic devices. The project brings together two world-leading research groups, possessing a unique experience in both magnetic dynamics and in patterned magnetic nanostructures.
