EXC 1003 FF-2013-17 - Studying Cells in Motion by Complementary Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectrometric Imaging

Basic data for this project

Type of project: Subproject in DFG-joint project hosted at University of Münster
Duration: 01/07/2013 - 30/06/2015 | 1st Funding period

Description

This project intends to bridge the resolution and concentration gaps between MRI and the histological methods based on microscopy. To this end mass spectrometric elemental bioimaging by LA-ICP-MS with sensitivity in the ppb range will be implemented as complementary tool to established histological methods. Novel laser ablation techniques will be developed to obtain the full molecular information of the MRI contrast agents, at mg/L (ppm) concentration levels, which are based on lanthanide or manganese ions, and on magnetite (iron containing) nanoparticles.

Keywords: mass spectrometric elemental bioimaging; laser ablation technique; method development
