Researching the Global Education Industry – Commodification, the Market and Business Involvement

Fachbuch (Herausgegebenes Buch)

Zusammenfassung

The book examines the Global Education Industry (GEI) and reflects on how it is transforming conceptualizations of ("good") education. The collection presents cutting-edge research on new providers and policy-actors in education and offers insights into its consequences for education research, policy, and practice. Significantly expanding the literature on the topic through systematic analyses of critical themes, such as the influence of private and philanthropic actors on policy-making, the use of digital technology and data infrastructures in the rise and expansion of the GEI, or the alignment of research to economic imperatives. The volume goes beyond the usual country-based design to draw attention to the rationales, processes, and impacts of current developments, thus discerning particular expressions and manifestations of the GEI phenomenon in international context. Attending to developments across sites in Europe, the Americas and Asia/Oceania makes it relevant for researchers, policy-makers and graduate students in a range of academic disciplines.
