Forschungsartikel (Zeitschrift) | Peer reviewedIn summer 2014, grasshoppers were investigated at 30 greened roadsites in Berlin. Sites were shoulders and centre strips which were characterised by nine environmental variables. In all, in 18 sites nine species that are common in the city of Berlin were sampled. Most frequent were Chorthippus mollis and Chorthippus brunneus. Species diversity (species richness, Shannon diversity) was negatively affected by increasing isolation, high percentages of trees and herbs and large amounts of bare ground. In contrast, mowing frequency had a positive impact on grasshopper diversity. Species composition was significantly related to isolation. Our results show, that small-sized patches such as greened roadsites can serve as habitat but also as stepping stones for migration for several – mostly euryoecious – species, as long as appropriate habitat conditions, management intensity and accessibility are given. It can be assumed that moderate management intensity can enhance invertebrate as well grasshopper diversity of urban green. In this context, further studies are urgently needed.
