Zusammenfassung

In order to address this question, we present a longitudinal study of the most important mainstream sociology journals in Germany. We will ask which contribution from the sociology of sport and of health and body actually managed to get published there. By employing basic methods of content analysis, we will analyse the published articles' subjects, thematic focus, samples and methods. Moreover, we will ask for the authors' affiliation in order to determine whether it mattered for sport sociology and how well integrated it is into the sociological profession. Thus, we believe that our paper will generate important insights about favourable conditions for sport sociology as well as potential barriers for a stronger attention for sport issues among sociologists.
