Beschreibung

The CoreGRID Network of Excellence (NoE) aimed at strengthening and advancing pan-european scientific and technological excellence in the area of the networked Grid and Peer-to-Peer technologies. To achieve this objective, the Network brought together a critical mass of excellent researchers  from forty-one institutions across Europe. Their joint programme of activity was structured around six complementary research areas that had been selected on the basis of their strategic importance, their research challenges and the recognised European expertise to develop next generation Grid networking middleware, namely: knowledge & data management; programming models; architectural issues: scalability, dependability, adaptability; Grid information, resource and workflow monitoring services; resource management and scheduling; Grid systems, tools and environments. The Network was operated as a European Research Laboratory having six institutes. The Network set up this Laboratory and made it internationally recognised and sustainable. It was funded by a European grant (8.2 M Euro) assigned to the CoreGRID NoE, for a duration of four years (starting  2004).
