Amid the confusing multiplicity of modern offers of belonging, which are sought, appropriated, and changed according to individual preferences, and which cannot be deducted from the ʼmereʼ body, it is typically necessary to give material expression to mental affiliations. In the modern consumer and media society, this occurs through the acquisition and use of corresponding consumer goods, as well as their media documentation and presentation. In our contribution, we focus on a narrative in skateboarding that has received little scholarly attention so far, but is typical of the scene - the failing tricks. Using a case study, we reconstruct the significance of the media presentation of failure in skateboarding and classify this as a sign of voluntary individualized risk work in the street art sport of skateboarding.
